The iconic central market was radiant with lights of all sizes and shapes after the launch of the Mid-Autumn Festival by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
Thousands of all professions, as well as tourists saw the activities prepared for the event.
Businessman a. Thavandren, 36, said it was a family tradition to attend the Lantern festival every year.
"This year celebration happens more than last year, as it seems to have income from more people," he said at the event last night.
Australian Rodney Newton, 46, said he was happy to witness the celebrations, it was his first visit to Malaysia.
"I am happy," he said. "I could see how a multicultural society as Malaysia celebrates its festivals." "The lantern festival is really beautiful."
Employee Roquette Mohd Jain, 28, who arrived in Kuala Lumpur of Sabah in a short holiday with his family, said his presence was a mere coincidence.

Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ng Yen Yen then led the procession Lantern parade, that started in via Jalan Tun Tan Cheng Lock central market, before meandering Chinatown in Jalan Petaling and Jalan Sultan, Jalan Hang Lekir.
A total of 5,000 lights, courtesy of the Tourism Association, Taiwan, were distributed to visitors.
