Tuesday on America's Got Talent, Lys Agnes produced her own version of "Dream On" by Aerosmith. As if to emphasize the message of the song, this exotic performer arrived on stage via a giant dream catcher flying from the rafters. She looked the part of a Las Vegas act, which is the object of this TV talent show. Actually, she looked somewhat like Cher as she crooned this familiar tune.
And she sounded a bit like Cher too, or so said Sharon Osbourne, when this knowledgeable music manager who is married to Ozzie Osbourne of Black Sabbath handed out her criticism on AGT. What this judge thought wasn't exactly upbeat. In fact, Sharon didn't like the approach to the Steven Tyler tune, and asked why this cover was done in a lower register than was originally the case when the song was presented to the world.
But, on America's Got Talent, Lys Agnes thought she would use her ability to reach into the depths of her low notes, going against the way the original anthem was performed. And, since Agnes is a singer who like to mix opera with popular music, she did add some operatic flourishes at the end of the performance.
In response, judge Howie Mandel thought this turn on America's Got Talent was possibly a mistake. He thought she took too big of a risk -- and that this may hurt her chances to go on to the finals of the NBC program that ends next week.
